Beavers are mostly nocturnal but they can often be seen during light summer evenings and early mornings. You are most likely to see them between May and September, and the summer period is the time to catch a glimpse of the kits (young beavers). If possible, wear dark clothing, move quietly, take a pair of binoculars and find a spot downwind of where the beavers are likely to emerge. Do not take dogs as they may disturb the beavers.
Always stick to public footpaths or where you have permission to be and respect the privacy of the landowners. Many landowners are happy to ‘host’ the beavers, but they may be put off if the beavers attract lots of beaver watchers who stray from footpaths and leave gates open.
In each of the catchments where beavers live we have provided links to local businesses who can help you to see the beavers, or provide you with nearby places to eat or stay overnight.
Do you mean a link to the BT website? Or we could make a kind of leaflet and have it on here?
we’ve got a general ‘beaver code’ – one-page doc – let me know if you need it
yes that would be good. I think just put it on this webpage as a PDF.
Yes good to use the code. Better have a look at it and make sure it is still up to the mark. I think we recently added a bit on dogs.
This website has been designed to support communities and land managers living alongside beavers in Britain. It is also a useful source of relevant information on Beaver Advisory/Management Groups in river catchments where wild beavers are becoming established. It has been designed by Devon Wildlife Trust and Beaver Trust.
