The Avon & Somerset Frome Beaver Management Group was established by a partnership of organisations to oversee the management of the wild beavers living within catchments in the Bristol Avon area. The group was formed so that stakeholder groups with an interest in the wild beaver population can be represented in the decisions made about how the beavers are monitored and managed.
Avon Wildlife Trust have secured funding for 18 months to run the Beaver Advice and Support Team (Bristol Avon & Somerset Frome). The project commenced in April 2025, and will run until October 2026.
In this time we will be providing advice and support to landowners, farmers and communities across the following river catchments and main tributaries: Bristol Avon, Bristol Frome, River Biss, River Boyd, River Chew, River Trym, River Malago, Somerset Frome, River Marden, River Mells, Sherston Avon, River Bourne, Shire Bourne, River Somer.
Due to the uncertainty of future funding, if you require advice or support relating to beaver management within these catchment areas please get in touch now, whilst this service is available.
Respect the open water environment and its ecological importance. Check your equipment is clean, dry and free from invasive plants or animals when visiting new sites. We would recommend using the biosecurity procedures outlined in the Check Clean Dry campaign. Be mindful of the impact your activities might have on the aquatic ecosystem and aim to work in a way that preserves the natural balance, protecting these vital water sources and their inhabitants for future generations.
This website has been designed to support communities and land managers living alongside beavers in Britain. It is also a useful source of relevant information on Beaver Advisory/Management Groups in river catchments where wild beavers are becoming established. It has been designed by Devon Wildlife Trust and Beaver Trust.
