Dorset Wildlife Trust
The Dorset Beaver Management Group was established to oversee any management needs required in response to the activity of the wild beavers living within Dorset’s River catchments. The Dorset Beaver Management Group was set up under the Dorset Catchment Partnership and consists of organisations and individuals working together to provide expert advice and information to communities and landowners who are living alongside beavers.
The Group includes representatives from Beaver Trust, BCP Council, Dorset Catchment Partnerships, Dorset Council, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Environment Agency, Forestry Commission (Forestry England & Forestry Services), Farming Wildlife & Advisory Group South West, National Farmers Union, National Trust, Natural England, South West Water, Wessex Water and Wild Trout Trust.
The Group covers river catchments across the county where free-living beavers are known to be present, primarily the River Stour.
Respect the open water environment and its ecological importance. Check your equipment is clean, dry and free from invasive plants or animals when visiting new sites. We would recommend using the biosecurity procedures outlined in the Check Clean Dry campaign. Be mindful of the impact your activities might have on the aquatic ecosystem and aim to work in a way that preserves the natural balance, protecting these vital water sources and their inhabitants for future generations.
This website has been designed to support communities and land managers living alongside beavers in Britain. It is also a useful source of relevant information on Beaver Advisory/Management Groups in river catchments where wild beavers are becoming established. It has been designed by Devon Wildlife Trust and Beaver Trust.
