The following equipment needs to be readily available to a beaver officer working in a catchment managing beaver related issues.

  • Lifejacket (to wear when close to water)

  • Throw line (for use when working in or close to water)

Beaver trapping

  • Beaver traps (2+) – well maintained and lubricated with vegetable oil.
  • Transport crates – with straw bedding
  • Pig boards for guiding beavers
  • Hessian sack
  • PIT tag reader
  • Apples and carrots (bait)
  • Large net (depending on operation)
  • Copy of licence

Tree protection

  • Glue / paint (for mixing with sand and painting on base of trees (Bostik Cementone SBR))
  • Large paint brushes
  • Bucket for mixing
  • Sharp sand
  • Tin snips and wire cutters
  • Galvanised Weldmesh fencing roll (6m long rolls, 900mm (height) x 13mm x 13mm (mesh size))
  • Metal springs for joining wire around trees (allows for tree growth), or wire / cable ties
