Gareth Harris or Simon Smart
Beavers in Wiltshire Advisory Service
Beavers in Wiltshire Advisory Service was established in 2026 by Simon Smart (Smart Land
Management & Ecology) and Gareth Harris (Gareth Harris Conservation Ecology) to provide
advice and land management advice to landowners in Wiltshire.
We work closely with the Bristol Avon & Somerset Frome Beaver Management Group
(BASF BMG) and are part of the suite of stakeholders involved. Beavers in Wiltshire
Advisory Service was launched to offer advice and support throughout the county,
particularly those outside of the Bristol Avon Catchment where landowner support may be
lacking.
This work builds upon 15 years of work with landowners in relation to beavers in the county,
and over 20 years work with farmers, farmer groups, and conservation bodies in Wiltshire.
River catchments of note include the Hampshire Avon and its tributaries, and the Thames
and its tributaries including the river Kennet, as well as the Bristol Avon catchment.
Respect the open water environment and its ecological importance. Check your equipment is clean, dry and free from invasive plants or animals when visiting new sites. We would recommend using the biosecurity procedures outlined in the Check Clean Dry campaign. Be mindful of the impact your activities might have on the aquatic ecosystem and aim to work in a way that preserves the natural balance, protecting these vital water sources and their inhabitants for future generations.
This website has been designed to support communities and land managers living alongside beavers in Britain. It is also a useful source of relevant information on Beaver Advisory/Management Groups in river catchments where wild beavers are becoming established. It has been designed by Devon Wildlife Trust and Beaver Trust.
